01 / Product Garden & Lawn Edging

What keeps a garden tidy is the line staying where it was drawn.

The boundary between lawn and gravel, soil and mulch, path and planting is crisp on day one. The trouble starts in the second year: grass creeps into the gravel, mulch spreads onto the path, the edge begins to wander.

TULUX garden and lawn edging is a flexible profile that fixes this boundary below ground. It comes in a roll, sits in a narrow slit trench and is held with stakes. All that shows above ground is a thin, straight line; the soil hides the rest.

Unlike timber it does not rot, unlike metal it does not corrode, and unlike a concrete kerb it does not crack and need replacing. Because it bends, it makes circular tree rings and free-form curves just as easily as straight runs.

Edging installed between lawn and a mulch bed
Lawn · mulch boundary
Why edging
  • Stops grass roots spreading into gravel and mulch beds
  • Keeps gravel, sand and basalt off the path
  • Reduces edge erosion from irrigation and rainfall
  • Gives the mower a clean, even line to follow
  • Separates areas and shortens maintenance time

Dimensions and
material.

Standard sizes from stock. The price includes 2 fixing stakes per metre; the stakes are used with the 7.5 and 10 cm heights. Above 10 cm no matching stake is available, so fixing and terracing are done by driving the profile in.

03 / Installation

Four steps,
one person.

No special tools. A spade, a hammer and a steady hand are enough.

01
Mark out the line

Lay the boundary line on the ground with a garden hose or string. A hose works best for curves, a taut string for straight runs. Checking the line by eye at this stage is easier than lifting the profile later.

02
Cut a narrow trench

With the blade of a spade, cut a narrow slit about two-thirds of the profile height deep. No wide trench is needed — just a slot the profile can stand upright in.

03
Set the profile and fix it

Unroll the profile into the trench and align it so the top edge sits at ground level. Drive in two stakes per metre, roughly every 50 cm, and reduce the spacing on curves. When a roll ends, overlap the next one by a few centimetres and stake through the same point.

04
Backfill the edges

Fill and compact the soil on both sides, then lay the lawn, gravel or mulch. The job is done; there is no annual maintenance afterwards.

Five years on, the line is exactly where it started.

01
Villa garden

Lawn, red basalt and a travertine path meet at three different levels. The edging holds the boundary at every transition and the edge stays clean after mowing.

02
Tree rings

Circular installations around olives and cypresses. The river stone stays inside the ring and does not scatter during irrigation.

03
Free form

A single continuous curved line between white gravel and basalt in a village garden — bent into shape with no cutting or joints.

A good boundary proves itself years later, not in its first season.

06 / Frequently asked questions

What people ask before installing.

Six questions

7.5 cm is enough for a simple separation between lawn and soil. Where there is gravel, sand or river stone, 10 cm is recommended: it prevents the fill from sinking beneath the edge and escaping sideways. 15 cm is used for mulch strips, tree rings and areas with a change in level.

Because the profile bends without being cut, you can shape it into any form you have in mind — down to circles the size of a tree ring. On tight curves, reducing the stake spacing to 40–50 cm stops the line from opening up. At very sharp corners it is cleaner to cut the profile and overlap the two pieces by a few centimetres through the same stake; no separate connector is used.

The operating range is −20 °C to +60 °C. It does not become brittle in frost or soften and lose its shape in summer heat. Thanks to its UV additive it keeps its colour and surface strength in installations exposed to full sun.

When installed with the top edge at ground level, a mower can pass over it. As the profile is flexible, blade contact does not break it or cause splintering. Even so, direct contact with a mower or strimmer should be avoided; when using an edging trimmer you can follow the line as a guide.

Measure the total length of the line and add 5–10%; on curved runs the allowance is slightly higher. Stakes are calculated at two per metre. Share a sketch or a list of measurements and we can work out the quantity for you.
